This past weekend Jackie and I were able to participate with the annual rally that is based in Bournemouth. For Jackie, this was her 5th year, for me my 4th.

Friday was Scrutiny day at the Littledown Centre, and I was able to officiate by running Marshals Sign-On in the morning and then timing the cars in and out of the hall for club purposes during the afternoon. Jackie was able to get hands on by being one of the team of marshals that pushed the cars into and out of the hall (no engines run indoors to stop exhaust fume build-up inside the building).

Highlight for me was when car 81, driven by Louise Goodman (ITV F1 pitlane commentator) and co-driven by Vicki Butler-Henderson (BBC Top Gear) arrived. They came over and saw me, and signed my autograph book with two personal entries! Thank you girls XXXXXXXX

Saturday I helped Jackie, as she marshalled one of the corners of the Avon Park stage, by recording which cars had passed us. This stage was run 6 times, in both directions during the day, so there was plenty to see and do, especially when the rain and hail set in and turned the corners to a skating ring.

The event has its own radio station, and invited anyone who saw anything to text it in for broadcast, and I did just that - about 30 times during the day!!!!!!! Paul Sutton from RallyFM was very pleased with the feeds.

And in the evening I met Tony Jardine, also from ITV F1, who was so pleased to see the difference in me from a year ago when I could only sit in a wheelchair. So much so, that during the awards show that he was compering, he made mention of me in front of the 300+ people there and I received a round of applause from the drivers, navigators, mechanics and support crews there. An adrenalin high, it certainly was.

Then to finish the night, Jackie asked Louise and Vicki to pose with me for a picture:-

I'd like to thank Rick Smith (Clerk of Course), David Walton (Chief Marshal), Bill Russell (Chief Scrutiny), Neil Roden (Chief Safety Officer) and everyone on the organisation side of things for the fun we have had over the weekend, and look forward to the 2003 event.

Thanks everyone.
